To learn more about the original Disney gremlins, I would recommend you pick up a copy of the book Service with Character: I’m reading all of Roald Dahl’s books this summer or at least trying to! Disney bought the rights to this one and planned on making an animated film, only by the time the project got off of the ground It was later updated and re-published in by Dark Horse Comics.
The Dahl creations were subsequently used by Warner Bros. In the original story the air force came in and built aircraft factories in their woods. The film project was reduced to an animated short and eventually cancelled in Augustwhen copyright and RAF rights could not be resolved.
Due to a multitude of bumps in the road, it never came to be the feature film it was designed to be. Is his first one, so we have to take that into consideration, but to be honest for this collaboration between Dahl and Disney brothers I was expecting a little bit more He also had a successful parallel career as the writer of macabre adult short stories, usually with a dark sense of humour and a surprise ending.
Since then, the Gremlins have appeared in the Return of the Gremlins comic book miniseries from Dark Horse comics, a reprint of the original storybook and the Epic Mickey video games. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, I think Disney even got a film out of this nonsense.
